Introduction to the
Quality Care program

At Hole's our goal is to grow the best plants and help our customers Enjoy Gardening. When customers ask why our plants can be more expensive, we want you to know why!

The short answer is, we grow the best quality plants and then determine the price. We never cut corners to grow an inferior plant.

These are the most important elements of our Quality Care program. Our philosophy may sometimes result in slightly higher prices, but also in vastly superior plants and the best value!

the Plants
We start with the best seeds, bulbs, cutflowers, and seedlings from Europe, the United States, Japan, and all across Canada. All of our plant material comes from trusted, proven suppliers--the best the world has to offer. We conduct field trials of new varieties every year, testing them for garden performance in Edmonton's climate.

Finally, we're also on the lookout for rare varieties, to provide collectors with the specialized plants they're looking for.

Every plant is nurtured according to its specific needs. Our horticultural staff love the plants they tend to, and many of them have been with us for years, carefully nurturing them.

Each plant gets exactly the amount of moisture, fetilizer and care it needs for optimum growth; no more, no less.

We grow our plants in jumbo size pots and packs for bigger, healthier, more beautiful plants. We strongly believe that in order to grow the very best plants, larger packs and pots are essential. Large pots give roots the room they need to develop. By growing our plants in bigger pots, we're ensuring that the mature plants will be large and robust.

the Place
Our computerized environmental controls ensure that heat and humidity are maintained to insure proper plant growth.

Our German-engineered boilers are rated #1 for environmental friendliness by the worldwide environmental group, "Environmental Choice." Our boilers run at 95% efficiency, using far less natural gas to operate than conventional boilers, lowering long-term costs and reducing emissions.

We maintain clean, modern facilities for customer comfort, employee safety, and plant health. Washrooms, offices, growing areas, retail spaces, and even our workshops and warehouses are kept clean and neat to provide a safe, comfortable environment for our employees and customers alike. At Hole's cleanliness is everyone's responsibility. Cleanliness plays a vital role in keeping insect and disease populations low, keeping our plants healthy; plants are continually monitored for pest problems.

One of our Golden Rules is to constantly improve and upgrade our facilities, methods, and knowledge in a progressive, liberal environment.

the People
Knowledgeable, enthusiastic, professionally trained horticulturists have been refining the Quality Care program for the last 25 years.

Hole's employees share a passion for plants--all of our managers and senior staff have degrees or diplomas in horticultural fields, and all of our other employees are being tutored through our in-house training programs. Learning has always been a lifelong pursuit at Hole's.

We field test hundreds of bedding plant and vegetable varieties each season, measuring their garden performance in northern Alberta's unique climate. This information is sent back to the plant breeders for their evaluation. This strict testing regimen helps ensure that the varieties we grow are the very best, and that the seed companies can continue to produce better and better varieties.
