What's New
The week of April 27
Extended Hours, Great Colour: All Ready for Spring
I love this time of year because the front greenhouse is filled to bursting with fuchsia hanging baskets in all their glory. New this year are these potato vines. I was expecting much based on the name but the long tendrils and stunning flowers are simply gorgeous. These Black Bowles violas are prolific self seeders and will soon spread into a dark blanket across any perennial bed you plan them in.
The first of 2009s containers are available, and these lovely watering cans are great for decks, patios or even as a gift. I don't know why but bulk seed potatoes signal the beginning of BBQ season to me. It must be the anticipation. Indoor Plants has some amazing pink stargazer lilies for sale to help bring spring indoors.
Behind the Scenes
Behind the scenes, the staff are busily plantiing up a wide variety of container shapes and sizes. Transplanting lettuce is a finicky job, but in a couple of weeks these seedlings will be growing vigorously. I came across these Silver Shadow annual euphorbia in the back ad had to take a picture. I am really intrigued and now waiting until they are on sale.
