What's New
The week of January 28
Looking forward to a new year!
Great Products
There is a good selection of seed now available including these kid-friendly kits. These Plant Nannys are clay spikes, designed to help keep your plants consistently watered. Water seems to be playing a larger part in floral arranging as I've seen more and more containers featuring it in both the floral and indoor plant areas.
Colour and Scent
The indoor plant glass house is awash this week with the heady scent of jasmine, one of my favourite smells. In addition to the jasmine, the hyacinth are starting to bloom adding their own unique scent. While the mini roses don't have much of a scent, they do add a lot of gorgeous colour in a small package.
Behind the Scenes
New Ways of Working
This year we are purposefully growing several crops like these assorted ferns for the express purpose of planting in containers rather than as a retail product. These tender succulents will in all likely hood only be sold as a part of containers. What looks like dirt on the leaves of this fig is actually the transmission media for a new biocontrol we are trying out in the greenhouse to help control aphids.
Start of the Growing Season
The appearance of capillary matting and these spacing mats signals that soon the geraniums will be arriving. The mandevilla needs lots of heat and remain under cover so ensure they don't catch a chill. These hydrangeas have already been repotted into larger sizes and are growing steadily.
